ACADIA CRAFTSMAN — A CONVERSATION
Brooklin, Maine
I've always been happiest with my hands busy and my mind figuring out how things work. One of my earliest lessons in craftsmanship came when I was nine years old. While attempting backflips on the bed, I put my feet straight through a window. Instead of calling someone to fix it, my mother handed me the responsibility. Looking back, repairing that window was one of my first lessons in accountability, problem-solving, and taking pride in my work.
As a kid, I spent countless hours fishing, boating, exploring, and watching This Old House and Nova simply because I loved them. I was fascinated by how homes were built, how problems were solved, and how skilled craftspeople could transform a space through patience, knowledge, and attention to detail. That curiosity eventually became a career.
"Every home has a story, and great craftsmanship honors both the past and the future."
I entered the trades at sixteen and began a journey that has now spanned more than thirty years. My career first brought me to the South Coast of Massachusetts, where I fell in love with restoring antique homes. Working on historic properties taught me that every home has a story, and that great craftsmanship honors both the past and the future.
Later, opportunities took me to the West Coast, where new experiences broadened my perspective and reinforced the value of creativity, adaptability, and lifelong learning. Those years shaped not only how I approach construction, but how I approach life.
My love of the water eventually led me into boatbuilding, and for a time I owned and operated a small boat shop. But as demand for my remodeling work continued to grow, I made the decision to focus full-time on what had become my true passion: creating beautiful, functional spaces for homeowners.
For more than twenty-five years, I have specialized in kitchen and bathroom remodeling, combining traditional craftsmanship with practical design and durable materials. Whether it's a complete bathroom transformation, custom tile work, or a carefully planned kitchen renovation, my goal remains the same: create spaces that are beautiful, functional, and built to last.
"After years of vacationing along the Maine coast, we finally decided it was time to stop visiting and start living here."
After years of vacationing along the Maine coast, Kristen and I finally decided in 2021 that it was time to stop visiting and start living here. We settled in Downeast Maine, where I launched Acadia Craftsman and we began a new chapter.
Not long after, we purchased a project house in Brooklin, Maine, where we still live today. A few weeks later, Ryder, our black Lab, joined the family and quickly became my constant companion — whether we're walking the shoreline, spending time on the water, or simply enjoying life on the coast.
Today, every project I take on is guided by the same principles that have shaped my career from the very beginning: quality craftsmanship, honest communication, and attention to detail. Whether I'm remodeling a bathroom, designing a kitchen, restoring a home, or working on my own house, I bring the same curiosity and commitment that started with a broken window many years ago.
